6.15.22 Labors of Love Podcast: Ep. 43 Tia Ajao, RN Birth Assistant
Labors of Love Podcast hosted by Hafeeza Ture. This evening I have the privilege of speaking with Taiwo I Adeloye-Ajao [or "Tia Ajao"], a DC-born, Baltimore-raised child of immigrant parents from Nigeria, West Africa. She obtained her Masters of Public Health degree in Maternal & Child Health in 2008 and later chose to pursue a career as a nurse & a doula, due to her own experiences as a mother of two & as a birth advocate in her community. After experiencing her own trauma as a black nurse constantly witnessing the black maternal health crisis right before her eyes, Tia embraced healing & a career transformation by serving as a "Birth Nurse" for Community Birth. Her role in supporting certified nurse midwives at home births & birth center births, soon inspired her to pursue the midwife role herself.
Tia is co-owner of Hello Baby Events where she & her spouse focus on education for “the whole village”, advocacy for community doulas; and empowerment for rising black midwives. Tia is proud to impact the next generation of nurses as an adjunct clinical instructor for maternal-newborn nursing. She is also a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated and is honored to serve as Chair of The Stork's Nest Prenatal Care Education Program for her chapter.
